Indonesian Mythological 'Naga' Dragons

32,000.00

Country: Borneo, Indonesia
Period: Circa 1950

Part of the intriguing series of concentric tendrils, these mythological ‘Naga’ Dragons adorned and protected the granary of a Raja or King. One of these elements is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.

The harsh tropical conditions of equatorial Borneo causes these ornaments to constantly be reconstructed and repainted. This is a genuine ethnographic specimen from a vanishing world.
